Chained Beasts Solo, Saves & Checkpoints:
Can You Quit Mid-Run?
Yes, Chained Beasts officially supports single-player. A developer describes checkpoints at the start of each in-game day and confirms that the same checkpoint mechanism applies to solo play. That gives you a basis for planning a return to an existing checkpoint, not a promise of saving at any moment or after every arena battle. Online co-op restoration has a separate, same-host lobby process.
Independent, source-based guide. The checkpoint explanation was posted before the October 15 release; we rechecked it after launch but have not played or tested restoration in the released game. Chained Beasts is a separate PC and console game, with no browser player here.

Three answers before you start
- No friends available?
- Single-player is listed on Steam. You can consider the game without arranging a group. Whether its arena combat appeals to you alone is a different decision from whether the mode exists; the multiplayer description does not make friends a requirement.
- Can you continue another evening?
- Returning to an available checkpoint is the developer-described design, so continuation across evenings is a reasonable expectation, not a released-build result we have tested. Pausing and quitting are different: do not assume that a pause creates a saved checkpoint. No measured game-day length establishes that every twenty-minute session will be enough.
- Returning with a group?
- Keep track of who hosted. The developer’s described route uses that same person to create the next lobby, followed by everyone reconnecting and restoration when a checkpoint exists. Switching hosts is not an established substitute for this process.
Can you play Chained Beasts solo, and is it worth it?
Steam identifies Featherweight Games’ title as a one-to-four-player gladiator roguelike and lists Single-player. If your practical question is whether you need three friends before considering it, the answer is no. Its combat and arena setting may interest an individual player, even when the promotional emphasis is on people chained together.
For the buying decision, separate your priorities. Someone looking for an action roguelike can judge its combat presentation and recent solo reports. Someone mainly seeking coordinated play with friends should not expect playing alone to reproduce that social experience. Neither preference establishes a universal verdict about the game’s quality or a guaranteed number of enjoyable hours.
Players in the linked solo discussion describe different preferences, including enjoying solo while favoring co-op. Treat those as individual opinions, not a survey. Look for reports that identify the released version and the mode actually played. An old demo impression can explain a preference without proving today’s save behavior, balance or companion mechanics.

Choose the session you can actually organize
| Session | What is established | Plan before starting |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Steam lists single-player; the developer says its checkpoints use the same mechanism. | Identify the current solo restore options before relying on a later return. The precise menu route is not verified here. |
| Online co-op | Online cooperation is listed. The developer’s restoration explanation is tied to the original host. | Agree who will host again and arrange the group’s return. Do not assume another player can take ownership of the checkpoint. |
| Same-screen co-op | The Windows and macOS requirements specify at least one gamepad for same-screen cooperation. | Prepare the required controller. The online restoration explanation does not establish every local or mixed-session arrangement. |
Check the store’s current features and system requirements for your setup. Remote Play Together and multiplayer labels are not a complete compatibility matrix.
When does Chained Beasts save a checkpoint?
The developer’s October explanation places a checkpoint at the beginning of each in-game day. Keep that unit distinct from an individual fight. Winning a battle, visiting another screen or reaching a quiet moment does not, by itself, establish that a new checkpoint has just been written. The cited explanation does not document a save-anywhere command.
Consider a hypothetical evening: you finish an arena battle and need to stop immediately. The useful question is whether the run has reached a day-start checkpoint, not simply whether that battle ended. Without confirming the checkpoint state in your version, this guide cannot promise that every action since your last fight will be preserved.
The source also needs reading in order. A March exchange discussed a restoration feature coming in the final version, after earlier wording caused confusion about the demo. The October replies clarify the intended checkpoint behavior. An old comment saying a demo run could not be continued is therefore not enough to conclude that the released game has no checkpoints.
Timing and history: read the developer discussion, including the later replies. October 11–12 dates refer to the original thread’s displayed dates.
Can you quit a solo run and resume later?
The developer explicitly extends the checkpoint mechanism to single-player. However, the statement does not supply a verified sequence of solo menu labels. This guide cannot tell you to press an invented Continue button or copy the multiplayer lobby steps into solo mode. Read the options actually presented by your installed release.
A return to a checkpoint is different from returning to the exact instant you closed the game. If you progressed beyond that saved point, some activity may need repeating; the precise rollback and retained details have not been tested here. Likewise, seeing a persistent unlock would not independently identify which point of an unfinished run can be restored.
Before committing a valuable evening, check what the current version tells you about restoration. Keep a note of the mode, game day and relevant on-screen messages. If the interface is unclear, ask through the official discussion rather than repeatedly starting fresh runs to hunt for a missing option. The cited post does not establish checkpoint replacement rules.
Restore an online co-op checkpoint with the same host
For an online group, the developer describes the following order. These are source-based steps, not a record of our own successful restoration. Keep the original host and an available checkpoint as prerequisites; a new lobby alone is not proof that the previous run is ready to continue.
- Return with the person who hosted the earlier online run. Agree that this is the existing run you want to restore, rather than treating any participant’s lobby as equivalent.
- Have that same host create a new lobby. The explanation applies when the host has a checkpoint available; it does not promise a recoverable run in every lobby.
- Reconnect everyone before attempting restoration. Do not treat the wording as confirmation that replacement teammates, a smaller returning group or a different roster are supported.
- Use the lobby’s checkpoint-restoration button when available. Its exact wording and position are not verified here. Check the displayed state before assuming that the old session has resumed.
Process: ThePhotoshop’s reply and Sneaky B’s developer clarification. The developer identifies the earlier non-developer-account reply as their own.
If the restore option does not appear
Start with the conditions the source actually names: the released game rather than an old demo, an available day-start checkpoint, the original online host and the reconnecting group. For a solo session, keep the solo mechanism separate from the online lobby instructions. These checks help describe the situation; they are not a guaranteed fix for every missing button.
Record your platform, installed version, mode, who hosted and what the screen says. Then use the developer discussion to ask about that specific state. Avoid deleting save files, choosing a cloud-conflict copy at random or moving files between devices as speculative repairs. Nothing in the cited checkpoint explanation requires those actions.
| Question | What to check |
|---|---|
| Where can this run resume? | Look for the game’s checkpoint state and the applicable restoration conditions, rather than an unrelated store badge. |
| Will another computer have it? | Steam Cloud is listed, but that label alone does not verify this checkpoint’s transfer and successful restoration on your other device. |
| Can another platform use it? | Cross-platform multiplayer concerns playing together. It does not establish cross-save, host transfer or a particular console-to-PC save route. |
Chained Beasts solo and save FAQ
Does solo require an online group?
No group is required by the listed single-player mode. That does not answer whether you personally prefer it to co-op, nor establish AI teammates or identical balance. Choose based on the mode and experience you actually want.
Is every battle followed by a save?
That is not established by the cited explanation. Its checkpoint unit is the start of an in-game day. Do not substitute battle completion or a real-world midnight for that condition when deciding whether to stop.
How much progress will I lose if I quit mid-day?
The exact amount is unverified here. Plan around returning to an available checkpoint rather than retaining the precise quitting moment. A claim about every inventory item, injury or intervening battle would require a released-version restoration test.
Where is the solo restore button?
The exact label and location have not been verified. The developer confirms the solo checkpoint mechanism, but the described lobby button belongs to the online explanation. Check your actual solo interface instead of following a guessed menu path.
Can a different host continue our run?
Do not assume so. The described online process specifically uses the same host. Checkpoint ownership transfer and substitutions in the returning group are unconfirmed, so coordinate with the original host before scheduling your next co-op session.
Can I move this save between Steam and a console?
No such route is confirmed by the sources used here. A Steam Cloud or cross-platform multiplayer label does not establish console cross-save. Seek instructions that explicitly identify both platforms before relying on a transferred run.
Sources and your next step
Checked October 16, 2026: the official Steam listing, the developer’s October 11–12 checkpoint replies and the player solo discussion. The checkpoint replies preceded launch. No released-build restoration, account, device transfer or console behavior was tested for this guide.
For a restore question, start with the developer discussion and the mode, platform and version you are using. For access or purchase requirements, check the official listing for your platform.
A separate browser-game option
For a different, short browser-game option on one PC, 2-3-4 Player Games offers local competitive mini-games and a Paint Run solo option. It is unrelated to Chained Beasts and does not share its progress. You can also browse the browser game directory or return to Airy Arcade home.
