Work out what repeated streets are telling you

CONTROL Resonant: The Last Taxi
Loop, Escape and Progress Checks

Repeated taxi rides in CONTROL Resonant do not automatically mean your game is stuck. The Last Taxi contains repeating puzzle encounters, and returning to Manhattan can finish one encounter without finishing the whole side quest. Missing previously unlocked abilities or completed main objectives is a different concern. Start with the state you can observe, then choose the relevant help below.

Unofficial, source-based guide for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series game. We reviewed developer notes through hotfix 1.4.2 and published walkthroughs; we did not replay the quest or test save recovery. CONTROL Resonant is not playable on this page.

Which situation matches your screen?

Still choosing taxis
Red feedback marks an incorrect selection: revisit the current clue. Similar streets alone do not prove a loop malfunction. Green feedback indicates a correct choice.
Back in Manhattan
One return is not the whole quest. Check the remaining objective and regional encounters rather than treating the transition alone as a failure message.
Earlier unlocks missing
Stop using repeated rides or save changes as experiments. Document the missing ability or objective and compare your evidence before seeking official help.

Check the current state before changing anything

A useful first check is a small comparison, not another attempt. Record where you are, what the current objective says, and whether a specific earlier unlock is present. Separate something you remember from something you can show in an older screenshot or recording. Neither a familiar-looking street nor an active side quest proves that your main progress has been lost.

  1. Read the displayed objective and note your region. Are you inside the taxi encounter, back on the normal map, or already being directed to another task?
  2. Capture the current quest status, map and relevant ability screen. Keep the wording as shown rather than changing it into a diagnosis such as “corrupted save.”
  3. Compare one concrete earlier achievement: an unlocked traversal ability or completed main objective. Record precisely what appears different, including when you last saw it working.
  4. If you only see normal puzzle repetition, continue to the hints. If earlier progression is actually missing, use the lost-progress section before trying another taxi or changing saves.

These checks describe the currently visible game state. They cannot prove what will survive a later reload, identify the underlying cause of a problem, or guarantee that a cloud copy is newer. Keep those questions separate from deciding which puzzle clue to follow.

Escape the repeating taxi encounter

The published walkthroughs describe entering a taxi’s altered area, answering Mila’s payphone and solving the local taxi challenges before returning to Manhattan. GamesRadar identifies green traffic-light feedback as a correct selection and red as an incorrect one. A transition to another similar street therefore needs to be read alongside its feedback, not judged from scenery alone.

Begin with one observation: what behaves differently in the current scene? Watch a complete light cycle and compare vehicles under the same conditions. If approaching a taxi changes its sign, compare that approach behavior too. Choosing the same parking position from memory can miss the actual condition being tested.

Reveal regional clue types — mild puzzle spoilers
Clue families, not a universal numbered answer key
RegionWhat to compare
Downtown / CentralRoof signs and vehicle-light behavior; detailed published sequences differ.
Evacuation ZoneFlashing rhythm and the taxi that differs from the group.
West Incursion ZoneThe streetlights above the taxis.
The ParkMissing vehicle parts and assembling the appropriate taxi.
UnderpassVehicle lights in relation to changing streetlights.
UnknownShadows revealed by the available light.
Reveal the documented West Incursion sequence — full example spoilers

Both walkthroughs agree on this example. First choose the taxi beneath the blinking streetlight. Next choose the taxi under the steady, non-blinking light. Finally choose the taxi whose streetlight flashes out of time with the others. Complete that sequence to return to Manhattan; this is one encounter, not the entire side story.

Check the overhead lights rather than transferring the answer to a fixed left or right parking slot. If your scene does not match this region and clue, stop applying this example and identify the encounter you are actually in.

Central has a specific source discrepancy: GamesRadar lists three selections, while PowerPyx describes four alternating selections. Downtown’s detailed cues also differ. An extra cycle therefore does not by itself establish a malfunction. We have not merged these accounts into a universal three-consecutive-choice rule. Use the clue visible in your scene and consult the attributed walkthrough for more detail.

Back in Manhattan, but The Last Taxi is still active

PowerPyx documents seven regional taxis, available in different orders, followed by a final phone interaction to complete the mission. Escaping a single altered area does not establish that all of those encounters are finished. Check your objective before assuming that the absence of a final completion message means the game discarded your work.

Its objective list distinguishes Get Back to Manhattan from Get the Caller Back to Manhattan. Answer Mila’s initial payphone inside an encounter before attempting its puzzle, and check for the final call after all seven encounters. These checkpoints help separate entering, escaping and finishing; they are walkthrough wording, not our own live quest-log test.

Make a short note of the region you just completed and what the objective now requests. Distinguish “I left this taxi encounter” from “I finished the full quest.” That simple distinction also keeps a missing end reward from being confused with disappearing traversal abilities or major story objectives.

Previously unlocked abilities or main progress disappeared

An original Reddit report describes missing recent abilities and repeated main quests after taxi encounters. Other replies report no such issue. The author later suggested an explanation involving an earlier restore point, but that is a player’s interpretation, not a confirmed account of the game’s save system or a reproducible repair.

Treat a concrete disappearance as a reason to pause experiments. Write down the last known normal state, the taxi region, the choices or transitions immediately before the change, and the exact ability or quest now missing. If you cannot establish whether something was unlocked, label that uncertainty rather than inventing a precise sequence.

For example, suppose Shift was visibly available before the ride, but afterward it is absent and an earlier main objective appears unfinished. Capture both screens, the platform and version, and the last confirmed normal progress. Describe those observations without declaring the save corrupted. This hypothetical example is different from having only an active taxi quest and no missing unlock.

Do not overwrite, delete, replace or choose an older cloud save just to test a theory from this page. Likewise, repeatedly replaying a long encounter can make your account of the original symptom harder to reconstruct. Any recovery attempt should follow guidance applicable to your platform and the state you are trying to preserve.

Remedy’s official reporting guide asks for the platform, what happened, where it happened, reproduction steps if known, and relevant progression or loadout details. Use its support portal; provide save files or PC diagnostic files when requested through that official process. Do not publish your private account details or save attachments in a public comment.

What current patch notes actually establish

Remedy’s update 1.4.0 explicitly fixed The Last Taxi not granting rewards. That is evidence about the reward issue. It does not establish that the update restores missing abilities, repairs every affected save, or explains the player report above. Older walkthrough observations about receiving no reward should be read with that later change in mind.

PowerPyx names the Untapped Coffee Cup Artifact as the quest reward. Use that attributed name when reporting a missing reward, and distinguish it from a lost movement ability. Neither the walkthrough nor the patch statement guarantees retrospective delivery on your particular save.

The official notes reviewed through hotfix 1.4.2, dated October 8, do not announce a repair for this specific taxi-related lost-progress report. Its missing-reward fix concerns Every Dog Has Her Day, a separate quest. Check your installed version against the current official directory, and describe your own symptom rather than borrowing a fix for another mission.

The Last Taxi loop FAQ

Does a red traffic light mean the whole quest failed?

GamesRadar describes it as incorrect-selection feedback. That signal alone does not prove that all regional encounters or main-story progress have been erased. Recheck the current clue before drawing a larger conclusion.

Should I reload an older checkpoint immediately?

Start by observing and recording what is currently present. This guide cannot verify which saved state would preserve the progress you want. Use official, platform-specific support guidance before replacing the state you are investigating.

Does this guide fix a corrupted save?

No recovery result has been demonstrated here. The page helps separate observable situations and prepare a clear report; it does not certify a bug’s cause or offer a guaranteed save repair.
